How to Make a Happier Home

Before we get into this post I need to preface it: I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT I AM DOING. Do NOT take my word for bible truth. Do NOT trust a thing I say because I am simply a young adult with her first job that is open to screwing up but is also terrible at routine. I’m making things work for me. I’m creating my own sense of what home means and I’m going to share that on here in hopes that it makes someone else feel a little better about where they’re at in life. You can learn from me and maybe I can learn from you at some point.

Got it?

I’m slowly starting to get a work/life balance. Now that I’m spending more time at home (and not working through it), I have an urge to make it seem more homely. My first big step was sparked when Ozeri reached out to me and offered some of their products to try out. These products were all gifted, but all views are my own.

My favourite wine requires a corkscrew and I wasn’t adult enough at the time to own a proper one. Just ask Matt and my friend Hallie how long it took us to open it the first time I found it in a store. When Ozeri offered an electric wine opener, I simply had to go for it.

This product did not work for me. I bought my favourite wine for my birthday and attempted to open the bottle with a friend’s supervision. It broke the cork. The use should be pretty simple, but it destroyed the cork and we got out the handheld corkscrew in the end.

Before this offer, I was in need of a small pan. The one we had was too big for things like pancakes and grilled cheese. It just doesn’t heat up quick enough for me!

This pan is adorable and non-stick and all kinds of wonderful. I like the pattern on the bottom that distributes heat evenly. After a few uses, I can definitely confirm that it has nothing stuck to the bottom and nothing has been burnt on. I love this pan!

This next product is something I did not need at all. It is something completely indulgent. However, it is easily my favourite and most used product in my kitchen at the moment. It even made it on March's monthly favourite post. It is, in fact, my milk frother.

There is something about a weekend coffee that I love. I’ve found myself a little coffee/reading perch where I can fully relax with a little caffeine boost. My milk frother has added an extra bit of indulgence to my weekend rituals. I’ve been bragging about this product to everyone I know. In fact, I was entirely disappointed when I found out a friend of mine drinks coffee black because it meant I couldn’t show it off to him. I cannot recommend this product enough.

These are all very little things that have made my life just a little better. They’re making things feel like home.

What things do you have that are making you happier?

Is fall not the best reading season? I’m so glad I’ve had a few opportunities to sit on the front porch, wrapped in a fuzzy blanket with a hot drink and my book. Right now, it’s raining outside and all I want to do is cozy up and get back to my book. I’ve read some great non-fiction in the past six weeks. I’m learning so much about how people relate to the world around them. That is so important to me. Check them out! The Reason I Jump: The Inner Voice of a Thirteen-Year-Old Boy with Autism – Naoki Higashida – 4 Stars         This is a very short book that I think everyone should read – particularly those who work with children. Although knowledge has come a long way, there is still so much more to be learned about autism. This book is a series of question that Naoki Higashida answers from his point of view. Interspersed is also a handful of short stories from Higashida’s point of view.         It’s an incredible book. It’s something that really allows readers to understand ho
