Monthly Favourites- October 2014

Happy Halloween everyone! I have an observation to start off. I am in charge of Halloween this year, and my mom told me to be ready for the little ones at 5:00. I waited for an hour before anyone showed up! Are kids not going out or are there simply no little kids in my neighbourhood anymore? I don't know, but this is so exciting for me! I am over the moon about how cute all the costumes are. Except, I was so excited about the first group of kids to arrive that I forgot to look at their costumes. Oh well. October was a good month. I survived midterms, and I did very well on a couple that I didn't think I was going to do well on. For this week, I have been looking forward to dressing up and going out. However, I was lacking creativity this year. I had three costume events to go to, and I wanted three different costumes. One was a redo from the work dodgeball tournament, so I was an army person. Tonight, I ended up as a Christmas Cook (which is my favourite costume so far), and

No Work Wednesdays

My best friend Marlee and I love Despicable Me. I love friends. I love the idea of friends, I love the feeling of friends, and I love MY friends. I don’t know if I’ve said it before, but I have the best friends in the world. I am the happiest I have ever been because I am surrounded by the best people I could ever ask. My friends are my sidekicks, my rocks, my joy. They listen to my crazy, support me in any way they can, and the advice they give me is stellar. I will always hold my friends close to my heart because I know what it feels like to go through life without friends. I am thankful to have a handful of people to call best friends, and I am thankful that the connections in school have allowed my number of acquaintances to grow. I appreciate everything they do for me. Whether it’s answering my stupid questions, teaching me how to use Instagram, letting me cry on their shoulders, coming to my first university football game with me, or jamming out to the new Taylor Swift album,

Copycat the Cool Way #12

So I have learned a valuable lesson this week. I really need to start writing things in advance. I also need to be more diligent about taking these copycat posts. I had an unexpectedly busy weekend with two last minute babysitting jobs and my sister requiring my help. Soooooooo, I need to take these pictures ahead of time so I can sit down in the hour I was home on Saturday and write this post when I was supposed to other than a few days late. I'm sorry. This has a slight affect on my schedule this week. I will write my regular Tuesday post on Wednesday, my monthly favourite post on Friday, and my copycat posts on Saturday. So there we go! Lots of posts this week! Tuesday- I realize that this outfit really did not turn out the way I wanted it to. I tried. I really tried. But hey, things happen. I need grey pants. That's what I got out of this. I have also come to the realization that I need to configure all of my outfit ideas. I have pictures posted on a cork board in my room

The Modern Superwoman

Something you should know about me is that I am a feminist. Think of that what you may, but I feel no need to explain myself to you. It is a part of my life, and it is part of my identity, sure as my name is Daniella. I took a Women’s Studies course last year in school, but I was unable to continue with it because of the course module I am taking for my Honours Specialization in English. At the moment, I am taking a course in American Women Writers, and a term has come up rather frequently in this course as it did in Women’s Studies. That term is “superwoman.” The Merriam-Webster Dictionary defines superwoman as “an exceptional woman; especially:   a woman who succeeds in having a career and raising a family.” Historically, the term superwoman came about in 2 nd Wave Feminism as a term of empowerment, and the definition above captures the essence of the 2 nd Wave movement. You can read more about it here, here, or here , but the important thing to keep in mind is that feminism

First off, I am so glad to see how many people are loving the outfit posts! My hope with starting this was to show you how easy it is to take inspiration from the things you are looking at. Hopefully you have seen it and tried it for yourself! Anyway, I think this week just zipped by! It is midterm time, so I have been rather busy with my studying, but thank goodness that mine are rather spread out. I ended up writing my two toughest ones this week, so I am excited for tonight when I can relax with some good friends! I am loving the fall weather. I am pretty good at handling cool temperatures, so I was able to go out on Thursday and Friday without a jacket - even though people told me I was crazy! Fall is certainly my favourite season for clothing. Tuesday- This was one of those "it's warm out but all the classrooms are still freezing" days.   I managed. The schools really need to fix that. Anyway, it's the return of the leather vest! I love this thing, so it's

Pinterest Challenge- Messy Updo Hairstyle

Here I am with another post for my  Pinterest challenge! It was difficult to choose exactly what I wanted to do from my many pins. It is easy for me to do something with food, but I have done so many recipes already. I really need to get into some more crafty things. I've got a couple in mind that are more crafty for those of you who like that type of thing. I ended up settling for something with hair. I have recently had a new interest in doing my hair. That came mostly from my mom and my sister telling me that I need to learn how to style my hair, so I figured it out, and now I'm an avid hair researcher. I don't know. Anyway, this style was really easy to figure out, and very easy to follow from the VP Fashion blog website.   (starting from the top left and moving left to right ending with the bottom right) 1. Separate your hair into three sections. 2. Twist one section of your hair. 3. Twist the section into a little bun and use bobby pins to secure it -

This week seemed like a long one. I am fully exhausted. I have some work things to finish up, but the only thing I am looking forward to is SLEEP! Thank goodness for the long weekend. I am looking forward to the big turkey dinner tomorrow night. Thanksgiving is a great time to get together with family and eat everything you can! I'm a fan of food. That's all.   Tuesday- The shorts were as bad life decision. I wore shorts out of stubbornness and stupidity. It rained when I came home from school. The temperature also dropped about 8 degrees. So needless to say, I instantly put on my cosiest clothes and made myself a hot chocolate. I got the inspiration from Hello Fashion.  I think I need to invest in some more cardigans. I love that they are cozy and can be dressed up or down. I'm imagining myself with a mustard yellow cardigan, but I don't even think I have anything that matches it! Well, I have learned two things; cardigans will be going on my clothes shopping list,

Book Review- Let's Just Say It Wasn't Pretty by Diane Keaton

I have read only one auto-biography/biography style book before. It was about Julie Andrews and it was for my final project in grade 12 drama class. I got into the book more than I expected, but that may be because I absolutely love Julie Andrews. I picked this particular book up after I read a review on it, and because I have an appreciation for Diane Keaton. She’s freaking DIANE KEATON! I would not consider myself to be an uber fan, but if there was one celebrity I want to sit down and have coffee with, it would be Diane Keaton. She is so down to earth and funny. Her take on life is so wonderful, and after I read this, my appreciation for her just grew. I loved her entire view on beauty and learning about the way it was constructed in her own life. It was a great read, and a genre that I want to explore even more. 1.        Don’t tell me what beauty is before I know it for myself (XVII). Okay. Let’s just take a second here and think about this. It is no news to anyone that be

Copycat the Cool Way #9

This week marks a huge accomplishment. For the first time since school started, I have caught up on my work! On a day to day basis, I am no longer scrambling to get stuff done, or getting all backed up so that I'm spending my full weekends doing homework. I'll let you in on a little secret . . . I started writing this post on Wednesday simply because I had the time! I already feel fantastic with the workload lightening, but I know that all my classes are about to speed up all at the same time! I shall enjoy this while it lasts. Tuesday- I found this outfit from a Jessica Simpson clothing ad in Seventeen magazine.  I have always loved my sweater, but I find it difficult to find ways to style it. It's obviously not the same type of sweater, so I gave it my own adoption! That's what inspiration is all about! Sweater- Roots Shirt- Zellers (when it was open) Jeans- Old Navy Shoes- American Eagle Wednesday- Want to instantly make an outfit cooler? Leather j
