Book Review- The Girl You Left behind by JoJo Moyes

Good news about this book. I actually finished it about a week ago. And I wrote this post on the weekend, so it’s all fresh in my mind. And let me tell you, it was a great book. My preferred type of book is historical fiction. The title of this book does sound like it’s a love story (and there are some lovey-dovey parts in there), but it’s a lot more interesting than that. Personally, I like books with a little bit of mystery in it. I like it when you get the big reveal at the end (which is why I like some decorating shows, don’t tell my mom). This book traces the roots of a painting that was lost at some point during WWII. Fast forward to modern times, and the painting is sitting in Liv Halston’s apartment. She has no clue how it came to be in her possession, until someone she does not expect wants to take it away. The narration jumps from WWII to modern times, but it is still easy to follow. Here are the memorable quotes: 1.        And as Monsieur Lefèvre worked, glancing to a

Be a Rebel

Life as a young adult is hard. As I mentioned before in my post about today's youth , I find that we are told who to be before we get a chance to find out for ourselves. I apologize for this, but I can only tell you how I feel about this as "fat" girl, and I am not the ideal person compared to what we are told to look like. This is the same for images of men. Anyone who does not look like (or doesn’t try to look like) the god and goddess-like illusions in the media are targeted. [source] a female, and I can share my speculations for how it is living as a male in this world. All I know for sure is that is affects body image alike. Our society is obsessed with beauty and perfection. I have shared my own struggles as a Have you seen the movie Beastly (find the trailer here )? It is a modern take on Beauty and the Beast, but the twist is that it takes out the most popular guy in school who depends on his good looks and charm to get his way. I thought about this and

Pinterest Challenge- DIY Knotted T-Shirt Headband

Look at this! Three posts in one week! And guess what! This is going to be a regular thing. I know, good for me. Let me tell you; when I got my weekly Bloglovin’ stats back and it told me I had -1 new followers, that hit a soft spot. I was losing followers per week. My page views are going down, and I’m not getting comments anymore. So I sat down and I figured out exactly what I want to do and when I want to do it. Now I’m just crossing my fingers hoping that I get some support back. Part of my new thing is these weekly Pinterest challenge posts! I have been looking all over Pinterest (not that that’s the challenge) for new activities or recipes or crafts to try out. And I am not crafty. Despite this fact, I decided to try a craftier activity. I have recently started to reorganize my closet and clothes, so I had a whole bunch of old t-shirts that I didn’t have room for. It’s a little difficult to donate t-shirts with names of people you don’t even talk to on the back. So I took to

Book Review- Where’d You go Bernadette by Maria Semple

I have not posted a book review for a while. I honestly finished this book a long time ago too. I also started a book and then I stopped because I had no time to read and by the time I could actually sit down for a while, I couldn’t remember anything about the book. When I had time, I finally finished another one, and so I have another book review to write. And after I write that maybe I’ll actually be on time with my reviews this summer. I can write it when I actually finish it so it won’t be difficult to remember. So. This book was really interesting. At first, it’s a little crazy with what’s going on. It is a series of memos, emails, and notes mixed with the actual story. Eventually, I ignored it because I got interested in the plot. And don’t let the deter you, it was a great book. It makes sense halfway through, and the humour is just perfect. This book follows Bee’s hunt to look for clues to discover the mysterious disappearance of her mother, Bernadette. Bernadette as a cha

The Lost Ones

When I look at today’s youth, I am appalled at what I see. Granted, I’m not old in any sense, but I am still in awe at the world we have created for our youngsters. The shift from innocence to experience is starting at a younger age year after year. A child is hardly able to say their name when they are bombarded with all the negative images that media has created in this era. I find that maturity is also becoming a rare thing. You hardly find young people, particularly in high school, with maturity that overrides that of their peers. And of course, I must mention self-consciousness. I just recently heard a girl in grade three saying she will kill herself because she couldn’t complete her goal. After I talked to her about it, I wondered where she picked up that notion. Tying that to self-consciousness, I wonder how young kids are able to look at themselves and hate what they see before they get a chance to discover who they are, and what gifts besides looks they have to offer the world

Pinterest Challenge- Hawaiian Smoothie

I know it has been a while. To be honest, I didn’t realize how long it has been until I sat down to write this. I’m not going to sit here and give you my excuses and explanations. All I can say is that I took the time to figure out where I want this blog, and the rest of my life, to be. So now I am ready to commit and I cannot be more excited! To start off, another addition to my Pinterest challenge. Instead of the typical pin and put aside activity, I have been challenged by my friend Marlee to actually do some of these totally ingenious things! It has been a blast so far, and I know I have done only foodie things (check out my board here ), but I just cleaned out my wardrobe, and I have Pinterest plans for some of my old stuff. Trust me, you will be looking forward to Fridays now! Also, I learned how to make collages for my pictures. Technology . . . who knew? Aaaaaand, thanks to Marlee once again, all my pictures will be Pin-able from this day forward. I made this smoothie o
