Monthly Favourites - July 2018

I would like to know how it is the end of July. I feel like it has flown by. Where has my summer gone? I feel like I just got back to Canada, and I’m practically about to fly off again (read why in last monthly favourites). In my last post, I talked about some of the things I’ve been up to. Has this month been particularly busy? No. But it has been relaxing (even if the reason is because I had surgery). Anyway, here are the things that I loved this month:

1.       The Incredibles 2

Have you seen it yet? My dad and I went out to see it a week ago, and we LOVED it! It was definitely worth the 15-year wait. Although the theatre experience was the worst (kids literally screaming and running around, sitting in the very front row because someone refuses to buy tickets online, and pausing the movie for people to get into their proper seats), the movie was so good.

2.       Popsicles

Although this may be a summer staple for some people, I’m more of an ice cream person. However, this is one of my main food groups right now thanks to that surgery I keep going on about. They have really been a saviour for me. May I suggest the Chapman’s chocolate popsicles?

3.       Highlighter Stick

I’ve mentioned that I’m starting to get into makeup. However, summer in Canada is NOT a time for makeup. If I’m actually leaving my house and want to look semi-decent, I put on mascara and some highlighter. I got this for £1 in Boots in the UK, and I use it on a semi-regular basis here. It’s a nice excuse to tell myself I tried.

4.       Orillia Visit

I mentioned in my last post about why this trip was so special to me. I got to see a new place and see my close family members. We also happened to see two of my mom’s cousins and meet a new member of the family. My mom also put on the most hilarious puppet show while we were at the OPP museum. This trip is choc-full of so many wonderful memories to cherish.

5.       Kobo Aura H20

I got an eReader! I am completely obsessed with my Kobo right now. I love that it gives me the freedom to check out eBooks from the library as well as download from NetGalley (see my last NetGalley review here). It’s also waterproof (a bonus for me) and it adapts to your lighting. In the evenings, it switches to yellow light to make it easier on the brain. I love it. You all know how much I love reading (just look at all these book reviews), but I won’t have the space or money to keep up with that when I move back to England. I am so happy with this decision.

Looking back at July, I feel happy about the things I’ve done.
I think August will be a great month. I’ll be spending as much time with my friends as possible, going on a camping trip, Matt is visiting, and I am back to England to start a new life! I am so excited for what I have ahead of me.

What are your favourites this month?

Is fall not the best reading season? I’m so glad I’ve had a few opportunities to sit on the front porch, wrapped in a fuzzy blanket with a hot drink and my book. Right now, it’s raining outside and all I want to do is cozy up and get back to my book. I’ve read some great non-fiction in the past six weeks. I’m learning so much about how people relate to the world around them. That is so important to me. Check them out! The Reason I Jump: The Inner Voice of a Thirteen-Year-Old Boy with Autism – Naoki Higashida – 4 Stars         This is a very short book that I think everyone should read – particularly those who work with children. Although knowledge has come a long way, there is still so much more to be learned about autism. This book is a series of question that Naoki Higashida answers from his point of view. Interspersed is also a handful of short stories from Higashida’s point of view.         It’s an incredible book. It’s something that really allows readers to understand ho
