Pinterest Challenge- Spiced White Hot Chocolate

So I may have cheated slightly on this one. And by cheating, I mean that I have combined two recipes to make one of my favourite combinations. The combination is completely optional for you. But anyway, last week, it snowed like crazy. The last time it snowed, it did not stick around. This time around, the weather decided to go all Elsa on us (I made a funny Tweet about it), and it was crazy. My sister had the day off school, and I came in looking like a snowman, so we cozy-ed up and made a nice warm drink. It was indulgent and felt so good!

I have been eyeing the white hot chocolate recipe from Gimme Some Oven for quite some time now. However, I decided to spice things up (hehe). A few years ago, I was doing a Starbucks run, and someone suggested I try white hot chocolate with a chai tea bag in it. And I LOVED it! I'm not a huge tea drinker, but this was different. When we decided to make white hot chocolate, I remembered a recipe for a vanilla chai milkshake from Chocolate Covered Katie, and I decided to add the same spices to our drink. Results? Perfection. Again, you don't need to add the spices in, but try it out if you want to try something new!

 Ingredients:

- 4 cups of milk (you can use whatever milk best suits your digestive system)
- 1 cup of white chocolate chips (or 8oz of chopped Baker's White Chocolate)
- 1 tip vanilla
*optional*
- 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp. powdered ginger
- 1pinch of pepper, cardamom, ground cloves, nutmeg (can use a combination of all or none of these spices)

Instructions (for white hot chocolate):

1. Add 4 cups of milk.
2. Add 1 cup of white chocolate chips
3. Add 1 tsp. of vanilla.
4. Stir ingredients together over medium low heat until they come to a simmer (NOT a boil)

Instructions (for the spice)

1. Add 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
2. Add 1/2 tsp. ground ginger
3. Add extra spice
4. Add extra spice and stir
*the spices will not completely dissolve, they will also form a layer at the top of your drink, so don't let it sit too long if that grosses you out*

So there we have it! As a little experiment, it went over very well. My sister and I enjoyed our drinks immensely. As always, you can find any of my other challenges on my Pinterest Challenge Board.

Is fall not the best reading season? I’m so glad I’ve had a few opportunities to sit on the front porch, wrapped in a fuzzy blanket with a hot drink and my book. Right now, it’s raining outside and all I want to do is cozy up and get back to my book. I’ve read some great non-fiction in the past six weeks. I’m learning so much about how people relate to the world around them. That is so important to me. Check them out! The Reason I Jump: The Inner Voice of a Thirteen-Year-Old Boy with Autism – Naoki Higashida – 4 Stars         This is a very short book that I think everyone should read – particularly those who work with children. Although knowledge has come a long way, there is still so much more to be learned about autism. This book is a series of question that Naoki Higashida answers from his point of view. Interspersed is also a handful of short stories from Higashida’s point of view.         It’s an i...

Book Review- A Treatise On Shelling Beans by Wieslaw Mysliwski

So this book took me way too long to read. I read before bed to shut my brain off, but I was so exhausted all summer that I was asleep as soon as I got into bed. It has been a long time, but I finally finished it! I took a good handful of quotes that sparked my thinking, so brace yourself! And if you’re interested in the tradition summer, you can find it here . 1.        When people can be divided by something they always will be (9). Just think-the only thing that really divides us as people are differences. If we see someone who is a fraction of a fraction different than us, our minds consider it division. Why is that? Why must we let things get in the way of relationships?   2.        All the more because if you ask me, these days the soul is a commodity like anything else. You can buy it and sell it, and the prices aren’t high (28) A popular book genre of the modern era is “self-help.” Lumped with that...
