January Goals

I find it a bit disheartening to look back on my previous goals post and see how proud I was at what I had been doing in my life. Needless to say, I have faltered. Work got in the way. It is so difficult to stay in a routine with teaching. So many things tend to pop up and I never come home at the same time.

I’m working on it. At the end of last term, I was trying to not bring work home with me. Matt stressed the importance of spending more quality time together (his love language), and I addressed that the best I could. This is a process for sure.

I guess the essence of goals is that they are always changing. That’s why these posts are a monthly series. Some of the things I’ve said in the past are just not attainable. I mean, read one book a week? I was delusional. This is my updated, learned from the past, taking baby steps to being a proper human goals list for January.

1.       Journal every day.

So far, I have written every day in January. I’ve started writing in categories again so I don’t find journaling overwhelming at the end of the day. In past posts, I’ve talked about how important journaling is to my own well-being and memories. I need to make sure I am staying positive as well as tracking this amazing journey I’m on.

2.       Exercise when I can – and don’t lie to myself about “when I can.”

Allow me to explain the last part: when I get home from work, I tend to spend a lot of time scrolling through social media in the name of “relaxation.” The truth is, if I really put my mind to it, I would 100% have time to do yoga. So no more lying to myself! Sure, there will be days where I genuinely am tired or it’s a later night, but when I have the time, I will do my yoga!

3.       Blog at least once a week.

As I’ve been writing these posts, I’ve noted how much I love having the time to take a step back, listen to music (since I’m more of a podcast kind of girl), and reflect on my life. I feel like setting my idea goal of blog 3x a week may not work until I have my life a bit more pulled together. However, a consistent one post a week is definitely doable. I will do 3x a week when I can, but I will aim to do at least once a week.

4.       Drink 3L of water a day.

This is still very important to me. I can track it a little easier with my brand new FitBit, so I will stay on top of that. I also realised that drinking out of straws is so much easier than a water bottle, so I may have to pick up something like that for when I’m at home.

5.       Continue learning Italian.

This is something I’ve actually been pretty good at since my last goals post. I took some time off of possessions for a couple weeks because I was really struggling, but I’m trying to stick with it now. Being with Nonna over the holidays was an eye-opener to how much I know. She was so proud of me for making an effort, and it meant the world to her. I will continue to make her proud by continuing with this practice.

There we go! All of this is SO doable. They are little things I need to be doing to improve my quality of life. When I was doing my goal posts in the past, I think they really helped keep me accountable.
What are you working towards this month? Leave me a comment below! Let’s keep each other accountable!

Is fall not the best reading season? I’m so glad I’ve had a few opportunities to sit on the front porch, wrapped in a fuzzy blanket with a hot drink and my book. Right now, it’s raining outside and all I want to do is cozy up and get back to my book. I’ve read some great non-fiction in the past six weeks. I’m learning so much about how people relate to the world around them. That is so important to me. Check them out! The Reason I Jump: The Inner Voice of a Thirteen-Year-Old Boy with Autism – Naoki Higashida – 4 Stars         This is a very short book that I think everyone should read – particularly those who work with children. Although knowledge has come a long way, there is still so much more to be learned about autism. This book is a series of question that Naoki Higashida answers from his point of view. Interspersed is also a handful of short stories from Higashida’s point of view.         It’s an i...

Copycat the Cool Way #2

I admit that I am a little late with this post. Things have been insane school-wise so I haven’t been keeping up to date with all my posts. Or anything for that matter. Plus, I got a new phone and I had to figure out how to get all the pictures from my old phone on to my laptop. Ugh. The following blurb is an imitation of my brain: duibqieufbijenwcijaaiojcfpo wijojndwqioNQIOENFONIONICQNINQ/ what? Descriptive right? Bear with me, I’m pre-writing a couple posts while I’m focused on blogging. I got you covered. Monday- Probably my favourite pants ever. They’re super comfy, but it can be tough to style them. I took the inspiration from a picture from a magazine (I think it might have been Glamour). It was also a spring day in Canada (did not last long), so I wanted to keep it cool temperature-wise. I have a blue cardigan that I typically wear instead of the scarf. Also, rainboots. Buy rainboots. They are the best for the icky, slushy, melty weather that is just around the corn...
