Monthly Favourites - February 2019

As I mentioned in my lastpost, I haven’t done a whole lot in February. It has been a lot of work, a lot of marking, and a lot of fun (but only in the past week). I’m now back to work and ready to get my routines back up and running (although I can feel my energy for tonight's routine already draining). For now, here are my highlights from the month:

1.       Night Out with Friends

I have mentioned this in my February pictures post, but this night just has to be one of my highlights. I love a good night out. This night was (partially) unforgettable. It was a little messy, a little loud, and a lot of fun. I had a deep conversation with one friend, had a drink spilled on me, and discovered the most delicious drink that tastes like alcoholic custard. I don't think this people will ever know how much their friendship means to me.

2.       Brianne’s Visit

I cannot get over how happy I am about this trip. I miss my sister like crazy (already), but I’m very thankful that we could have some time together. Even though I’m planning to go home for the summer, I know I won’t be able to see her because of her job. Our time together throughout the year is very short, and I cherish every moment we do have. I had to choose the cheesy-ist, most blurry picture to show the pure joy we had at seeing each other for the first time in two months.

3.       York

I’m not going to do another travel post on York (last one can be found here) because we did the same things. This time, we opted out of the York Minster (since Brianne’s afraid of heights) and went to the York Dungeons instead. I normally hate scary things, but it wasn’t bad at all. It was funny and memorable. I did get accused of dancing naked in city center as part of the experience and had to show everyone an example of my dancing, but I nailed that part (much to the embarrassment of my sister)!

4.       Cooking

I don’t have time to cook nice meals during the week. I’ve also missed out on some of my favourite dishes because of Matt’s dietary aversions (a nice way to say he’s a picky eater). During the half-term, I cooked with Brianne and it was so much fun. I forgot how enjoyable it is. I think I need to make it part of my weekend plans a little more.

5.       Paperless Post

This is a new opportunity that excites me. Paperless Post (link here) is a company that believes in the old-fashioned tradition of sending cards but with a modern twist. As a collector of all things stationery, I was thrilled when they reached out to me with an offer of coins to redeem on their website. I have a birthday coming up, and I think it would be great to email everyone a personalized card rather than a cold, black and white email. I’ve played around on the website a bit and the process seems really simple. They also have designers like Kate Spade New York, which is my personal favourite. I can’t wait to tell you more about this!

February was short and sweet. I’m really looking forward to March. Although it’s a non-stop push for work (the marking deadlines are already stressing me out a little), I have a few activities planned. I’m off to Cardiff this weekend to visit my teachers training pals, and my birthday is in a few weeks. I’m always looking ahead, and I can’t wait for this upcoming month.

What are your monthly favourites?

Recently Read - October 2020

Is fall not the best reading season? I’m so glad I’ve had a few opportunities to sit on the front porch, wrapped in a fuzzy blanket with a hot drink and my book. Right now, it’s raining outside and all I want to do is cozy up and get back to my book. I’ve read some great non-fiction in the past six weeks. I’m learning so much about how people relate to the world around them. That is so important to me. Check them out! The Reason I Jump: The Inner Voice of a Thirteen-Year-Old Boy with Autism – Naoki Higashida – 4 Stars         This is a very short book that I think everyone should read – particularly those who work with children. Although knowledge has come a long way, there is still so much more to be learned about autism. This book is a series of question that Naoki Higashida answers from his point of view. Interspersed is also a handful of short stories from Higashida’s point of view.         It’s an i...

Book Review- A Treatise On Shelling Beans by Wieslaw Mysliwski

So this book took me way too long to read. I read before bed to shut my brain off, but I was so exhausted all summer that I was asleep as soon as I got into bed. It has been a long time, but I finally finished it! I took a good handful of quotes that sparked my thinking, so brace yourself! And if you’re interested in the tradition summer, you can find it here . 1.        When people can be divided by something they always will be (9). Just think-the only thing that really divides us as people are differences. If we see someone who is a fraction of a fraction different than us, our minds consider it division. Why is that? Why must we let things get in the way of relationships?   2.        All the more because if you ask me, these days the soul is a commodity like anything else. You can buy it and sell it, and the prices aren’t high (28) A popular book genre of the modern era is “self-help.” Lumped with that...
