Monthly Favourites - January 2021

January of 2021. I’ve been finding hard to be in this month without looking back at last year and how hopeful I was about the rest of the year. I had travel plans. I was starting to come up with travel plans (Belgium and Berlin were my last trips). I was planning for my leaving party. It’s hard not to feel sad when you look back on 2020. I also feel like it makes me hesitant to make plans and get excited for things in 2021. I keep being told to be hopeful, but this lack of knowing holds me back from making plans.

I don’t want this to be negative. This is just the “real” part of where I’m at right now. However, there is actually a lot I can count on and look forward to. Despite the fact that I’ve established an awesome Work From Home routine, I’m looking forward to being back in person to teach. This past week, I also got an official job offer that means I have solid work for the rest of the year teaching English! My book club will be meeting regularly again. I’m doing an online course that I’m already loving and that will take me forward in my career. This is what I can depend on, and this is what I need to focus on.

January has also been full of a lot of cozy and fun things. These are my favourites from the month!

1.      Breath – Yoga with Adriene

I have always dabbled in this but never made it all the way to the end of the month. Today, I did it! I did 30 Days of Yoga! I feel like this practice has helped me in so many ways. I feel a lot more connected to my breath. The proof is that I did a little run with my sister and could actually breath at the end! I feel more connected to my centre because I’ve been standing up straight. This has been such a beneficial practice and a great way to start my days!

2.      Face Brush

I got this brush for Christmas, and I LOVE it! My skin has been a lot better since I started using more Beekman products (a past monthly favourite), but this has taken things to a whole new level! I still have some work to do, but ultimately, my skin is brighter and better since I started using this brush.

3.      Makeup

I feel like I may the only person in the world putting MORE makeup on during this time! To be honest, I’ve never really been that into makeup. I never knew how to use eyeshadow, but I’ve been experimenting with it a lot more this month. Although that will be coming to an end, I’ve had a great time learning something new!\

4.      Loungewear

How could anyone not be loving loungewear right now? This is all I’ve been wearing, and I’m completely disappointed that I have to go back to wearing teacher clothes. I mean, how can I go back to wearing a wire bra instead of a bralette (another previous favourite)? This will definitely be my after school/after work wear, but I will miss it so much!

5.      Stickers

If you’re into stickers, I may suggest my friend Rachel. She makes the cutest stickers for all occasions. We also worked together to create a special one for my sister. She is seriously so talented and creative. This particular sticker was amazing to receive in the mail this month after Kamala Harris officially took power. If you’re interested in her work, check out her Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/_made_by_rachel_/

January has been very same-y, but I managed to get some real gems in it! My big focus this month has been on myself and my routines and goals. I will have to shift into new life at a new school, but I feel ready for the changes in February.

What have you been up to in January?

Is fall not the best reading season? I’m so glad I’ve had a few opportunities to sit on the front porch, wrapped in a fuzzy blanket with a hot drink and my book. Right now, it’s raining outside and all I want to do is cozy up and get back to my book. I’ve read some great non-fiction in the past six weeks. I’m learning so much about how people relate to the world around them. That is so important to me. Check them out! The Reason I Jump: The Inner Voice of a Thirteen-Year-Old Boy with Autism – Naoki Higashida – 4 Stars         This is a very short book that I think everyone should read – particularly those who work with children. Although knowledge has come a long way, there is still so much more to be learned about autism. This book is a series of question that Naoki Higashida answers from his point of view. Interspersed is also a handful of short stories from Higashida’s point of view.         It’s an incredible book. It’s something that really allows readers to understand ho

I have recently taken on the title of a feminist, and this website has been a great way to see that other women share the same views as me. 3.        I’m not a chick-flick kind of girl. James Bond and Indiana Jones are the best. I

Monthly Favourites- February 2016

I don’t know about you, but it feels like February has flown by! I can’t say it’s been a busy month; it’s more like a month of sinking back into routine. Last month, I was so ready to get back to school. It’s been great so far. I’m loving my classes, and I’m doing well with keeping on top of readings. I went to watch The Superbowl with friends (we didn’t make it to halftime), took control of my own body, and I’ve made myself a solid group of friends. I’m really happy. Here’s what got me through the month: 1.        NetGalley     I’m sure you can tell based on the sheer amount of book reviews I’ve been posting, but I have been reading quite a lot. This is all thanks to NetGalley. I have been a member of the site for over a year, but I never really got into it until now. At home, I have an extensive bookshelf, but I couldn’t bring that to the UK with me. I turned to NetGalley, and I have been rewarded. As a member, I request book titles and get a free e-book. In exchange, I have
